TRAVEL AND CRUISES

Malaga wineries. The wine route

Malaga wineries. The wine route

The Wine Route of Ronda and Malaga is home to the Protected Designations of Origin "Malaga", "Sierras de Malaga" and "Raisins of Malaga". Located in the province of Malaga and integrated by different sub-zones and areas of wine production.

The potential of the mosaic of territories that make up the route is more than remarkable. Wines with history, whose origins date back to Phoenician and Roman times, and a historical, cultural and natural heritage of exceptional value.

All this, together with the diverse tourist and leisure offer that the destination offers, provides the visitor with an unparalleled experience.

Each Denomination of Origin protects different wines, thus, within the Protected Designation of Origin "Malaga" we find: Still Wines, Sweet and Dry Wines, and Liqueur Wines.

In the Protected Designation of Origin "Sierras de Málaga" we find: Whites, Rosés, Reds and Sweet Reds. Within this Protected Designation of Origin there is a sub-zone called "Serranía de Ronda" and six productive areas.

Different areas to visit:
  • Ronda
  • Axarquia
  • Mountains of Malaga
  • Antequera-Mollina
  • Manilva

The wineries can accommodate visits from 2 to 100 people. In some of them you can organize different events or meals and some of them also offer accommodation.

The typology is varied, from small ancestral wineries to large and modern ones.

The location ranges from Malaga capital, to mountains, hills and even at the bottom of a valley.

The best complement to a visit to a winery is to taste local and seasonal products in local restaurants.

For those who want to go deeper, you can visit the Wine Museum in Malaga or the Centro Integral del Vino in Ronda.

Types of grapes:
  • North: Pedro Ximénez and Doradilla varieties predominate, the latter being native to the area.
  • Axarquia: Most of the predominant vineyards in the area are of the Moscatel and Romé (red or white) varieties, which are native to this area.
  • Montes de Málaga: The predominant varieties are Pedro Ximénez and Moscatel.
  • Manilva: The outstanding variety is the Moscatel.
  • Serranía de Ronda: In it the white varieties stand out: Chardonnay, Macabeo and Sauvignon Blanc and the red varieties: Cabernet, Sauvignon, Merlot Shyrah and Tempranillo.
